Things to do in Agadir: what is actually worth your time

A beach city, not a medina city. Here is what genuinely repays the effort — in town, just outside it, and with children.

The short version: Agadir is a beach city, not a medina city — it was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake. The things worth your time are the Souk El Had (over 3,000 stalls), the cable car up to the Kasbah, the marina and the seafront, and the trips just outside town: Paradise Valley, Taghazout and the Atlas foothills.

In the city

🛍️ Souk El Had

The big one: a walled market with well over 3,000 stalls, open Tuesday to Sunday. Spices, argan, leather, fruit, and the sheer scale of it. Go in the morning.

🚡 Cable car & Kasbah

The cable car lifts you to Agadir Oufella, the old hilltop kasbah, for the view back over the whole bay. The best 20 minutes in the city.

⛵ The marina

The tidy end of town: boats, cafés, shops. Pleasant for an evening walk, and where a lot of the boat trips leave from.

🏖️ The beach & promenade

A long crescent of Atlantic sand with a paved promenade running its length. Swimmable in summer, walkable all year.

Just outside Agadir

💧 Paradise Valley

A gorge of natural rock pools in the foothills. An easy half-day, and the classic Agadir day trip.

🏄 Taghazout

The surf village, about 20 km / 30 minutes north. Worth a day even if you have never held a board. Full Taghazout guide →

🐊 Crocoparc

A crocodile park and botanical garden on the Marrakech road. Reliable with children.

🕌 Marrakech

Doable as a long day trip, better as an overnight. How to get there →

With kids

Agadir handles families better than most of Morocco: the beach is wide and gently shelving, the promenade takes a pushchair, and Crocoparc, the cable car and camel rides on the sand all work for younger children. Older ones tend to want the quad and buggy trips inland, or a first surf lesson on the beach breaks near Tamraght, where the waves are gentle and sandy.

In the evening

Agadir is not a nightlife city, and that is rather the point. Evenings are for the promenade, the marina, and dinner. If you want a late night you will find it in the hotel bars along the seafront, but most people are up early for the beach.

When it rains

It rarely does — Agadir gets over 300 days of sunshine — but when it does, the souk is covered, the museums are indoors, and the hammams are exactly where you want to be.

Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in Agadir?

The main things are the Souk El Had market with its 3,000-plus stalls, the cable car up to the Agadir Oufella kasbah for the view over the bay, the marina and the seafront promenade, and the beach itself. Just outside the city, Paradise Valley and the surf village of Taghazout are the two classic day trips.

Is Agadir worth visiting?

It depends what you want. Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so it has no ancient medina — if that is what you came to Morocco for, go to Marrakech or Fez. What Agadir has is a long Atlantic beach, over 300 days of sunshine, a relaxed pace, and easy access to the surf coast and the mountains.

What is there to do in Agadir with kids?

The beach is wide and gently shelving, and the promenade works with a pushchair. Crocoparc, the cable car and camel rides suit younger children. Older ones tend to prefer quad and buggy trips, or a first surf lesson on the gentle beach breaks near Tamraght.

How many days do you need in Agadir?

Three or four days covers the city itself comfortably: the souk, the kasbah, the marina and a couple of beach days. Add a day each for Paradise Valley and Taghazout, and more if you want Marrakech, which is about three hours away.

What is there to do in Agadir at night?

Not a great deal, and that suits most visitors. Evenings are for the promenade, the marina and dinner. There are bars in the seafront hotels, but Agadir is a beach city rather than a nightlife one.
